GDIT Awarded $1.7-Billion Flight School Support Contract

Training Legions of Fierce Ruckers

General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) has been awarded the Flight School Training Support Services contract to support the U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence.

A division of U.S. defense contractor General Dynamics, GDIT is a provider of digital consulting and mission services to include: data analytics, high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, 5G wireless services, logistics and supply chain management, and training and simulation.

The $1.7-billion contract—managed by the U.S. Army Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training, andInstrumentation—comprises a five-year base period and seven option years.

The U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence leads the Flight School XXI program, the primary training program for all U.S. Army rotary wing aviators, at Alabama’s Fort Rucker.

Each year, subject program trains approximately four-thousand entry-level and graduate-level students. Under the new contract, GDIT will utilize advanced simulation technology to train student pilots at the Fort Rucker facility—the largest of its kind in the world. Neophyte aviators will be trained in multiple cargo, attack, utility, and training helicopter platforms. GDIT will own, operate, maintain, and upgrade a suite of virtual flight simulators and provide related training and program management services.

GDIT president Amy Gilliland stated: “We have partnered with the U.S. Army for nearly two decades and provided more than one-million hours of simulation training. We are looking forward to continuing to support the next generation of aviators with cost-effective and modern training capabilities.”

General Dynamics Information Technology’s experience with delivering modern training environments spans the Department of Defense. The company’s training programs include live, virtual, and constructive solutions and multi-domain operations training.
