JetBlue's Ambitious Purchase Plans

New York's JetBlue Airways has converted two more A320 options into firm orders, bringing its total number of A320 aircraft on firm order to 60.
This is the second time this year that JetBlue has announced an additional aircraft order. The two aircraft announced this week are scheduled to be delivered to the airline in December, and in May 2003.
Including JetBlue's seventh leased aircraft from ILFC, which is scheduled to be delivered in February 2003, the airline has 51 aircraft scheduled for delivery through 2005: another 12 A320s in 2002, 14 in 2003, 13 in 2004 and 12 in 2005. Counting options and purchase rights, JetBlue's fleet could total 132 aircraft, with a list price of more than $6.5 billion. All aircraft will be powered by International Aero Engines AG V2500 engines.
"The fact that JetBlue keeps coming back for more demonstrates that the A320 Family has perfect aircraft for growth from both cost and comfort perspectives," said Airbus President and Chief Executive Officer Noel Forgeard. "David Neeleman (JetBlue's Chief Executive Officer) has built his business by keeping his employees and his customers happy and we're happy that Airbus aircraft continue to be an integral part of that practice."
