Navy Identifies Four Killed In T-39 Accident

Three Were From Florida, One From Pennsylvania

The names of the four Sailors killed in the crash of a T-39N Sabreliner near Blue Ridge, GA, April 12, have been released.

They are:

  • Lt. Cmdr. Charles McDaniel (Ret.), 67, of Cantonment, FL.
  • Capt. Jason Paynter, USMC, 38, of Pensacola, FL.
  • 1st Lt. Shawn Nice, USMC, 26, of Levittown, PA.
  • Ensign Zachary Eckhart, 25, of Pensacola, FL.

All four were assigned to Training Squadron (VT) 86, based out of Naval Air Station Pensacola, FL. They were conducting a routine training mission at the time of the crash. Navy's Air Training Command spokesman Lt. Brett Dawson said fuel spilled in the crash started a 25-acre brush fire which slowed down recovery.

The cause of the mishap is under investigation.
