Company Rewards Educational Achievements Of Employees' Children
With 13 Multi-Year Stipends
Orbital Sciences
Corporation Thursday announced the recipients of its "Orbital
Scholars and Grants" college scholarship program for the 2004-2005
academic year. Each year, in recognition of the outstanding
academic achievements of the children of Orbital employees, the
company awards $5,000 scholarships and $1,000 grants, payable over
two years, to high school seniors or currently enrolled college
students. The recipients are selected on the basis of high academic
achievement and acceptance into an accredited four-year college or
university. Each student is eligible to receive the award for a
second year subject to continued academic progress.
"On behalf of all Orbital employees, I congratulate the
recipients of this year's company scholarships," said Orbital's
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, David W. Thompson. "These
young men and women have worked very hard to achieve the academic
records that enabled them to qualify for and receive these awards.
We are very proud to support their continued studies and to be able
to help them pursue their academic goals."
For the 2004-2005 academic year, a total of 13 scholarship and
grant awards were made. The recipients of these highly competitive
awards are shown below.
- $5,000 Scholarship Winners:
Dominique Bruno, who will attend Boston College and major in
Literature
Joy Dunn, who will attend MIT and major in Astronautical
Engineering
Heather Graham, who will attend Stanford University and major in
Biology
Mariel Herbert, who will attend the University of Delaware and
major in Biology and Psychology
Tara Howard, who will attend the University of Maryland and major
in Biochemistry
Erfan Parvez, who will attend Cornell University and major in
Engineering
- $1,000 Grant
Winners:
Rebecca Burtch, who will attend Virginia Polytechnic Institute and
major in Hospitality and Tourism
Ryan DeMars, who will attend the Georgia Institute of Technology
and major in Mechanical Engineering
Deepak Kumar, who will attend the University of Maryland and major
in Business Management
Jessica McDermott, who will attend Hollins University and major in
Spanish and International Studies
Matthew McGonagle, who will attend the University of Maryland and
major in Mathematics and Physics
Christopher Sprute, who will attend Arizona State University and
major in Business
Kristin Marie Weigle, who will attend Colby College and major in
International Relations
Since 1992, Orbital's scholarship program has recognized
children of company employees for their high academic achievements.
To date, the company has awarded a total of 67 scholarships and
grants in the amount of $186,000. The company is proud to play a
small part in assisting with the advanced education of these
exceptional students.
