New Movie Casts DJI Drone As The Villain

Phantom UAV Is 'Possessed' By An Evil Serial Killer

Drones are exciting new technology that have the potential to enhance public safety and save lives, but what might happen if one were in the hands of a deranged serial killer?

That is the premise of a new movie "The Drone", which will premiere at the Slamdance Festival in Park City, UT on January 28th, according to a report from Drone DJ.

In the movie, directed by Jordan Rubin, a DJI Phantom drone is "possessed" by such a person, and takes on a life of its own. The killer uses the aircraft to terrorize newlyweds Rachel and Chris, played by Alexandra Essoe and John Brotherton, respectively.

The movie includes a new take on the classic shower scene from Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho. There is also a surprise appearance by another DJI drone towards the end of the movie, according to the report.

It's not known at this time if The Drone is planned for general release to theaters, or will go straight to Netflix.
