Oris and Wings of Hope: a Partnership to Watch

Style and Substance

Oris, the Swiss manufacturer of luxury mechanical watches, has introduced two new timepieces developed in collaboration with Wings of Hope, the U.S.-based aeronautical humanitarian organization.

Founded sixty-years ago and twice nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, Wings of Hope has utilized the power of aviation to bring medical support to remote and vulnerable communities in more than fifty countries. In 2021, north of 65,000 people used the organization's programs and services.

After the fashion of most benevolent enterprises, Wings of Hope’s ongoing existence and mission are predicated largely upon the generosity of donors and the selflessness of volunteers. In 2021, 350-volunteers plied their time and energies to Wings of Hope’s vast and varied undertakings. Donations to the organization consist primarily of monies which are applied to aeronautical prerequisites the likes of fuel and maintenance. Occasionally, however, donations take the form of aircraft, which are either pressed into service at one of Wings of Hope’s 11 field bases or sold to fund the organization’s philanthropic endeavors. Of every dollar given to Wings of Hope, 86-cents go directly toward the funding of medical, provisioning, or evacuation flights.

Oris’s new limited-edition watches will also support Wings of Hope’s mission. The storied, 118-year-old Swiss company’s two models are based on its signature Big Crown pilot’s watch, and powered by Oris’s superb Calibre 401 movement—a high-performance miracle-in-small that’s at once anti-magnetic, self-powering, and warrantied for ten-years.

One of the new watches is crafted from steel and offers wearers a robust, 40-millimeter case. The other features a refined, 38-millimeter case crafted from 18-carat yellow gold. The steel watch is limited to one-thousand pieces. Only one-hundred specimens of the gold watch will be produced. Both timepieces sport Cervo Volante sustainable deer-leather straps.

Oris and Wings of Hope are justifiably proud of their collaboration, and look forward to applying the proceeds thereof to saving lives and mitigating suffering throughout the world.
