Web Site Uncovers Snoozing Space Cadets At Huntsville

Nap Time At NASA?

OK, admit it... who among us hasn't taken some time out of our busy work days to sneak in a quick game of solitaire at our computers? For that matter, have you ever grabbed a quick nap at your desk?

If so, then you have something in common with workers at NASA's Huntsville, AL space center... and that's not a good thing. The Associated Press reports the watchdog website NASAWatch.com released photos Monday of three workers at the space center who were, literally, caught napping -- and a fourth who was playing an online card game.

The employees in question work for NASA contractor Teledyne Brown Engineering Inc. They work in the space center's Payload Operations Center, which manages science operations onboard the international space station.

NASA spokesman Steve Roy was quick to downplay the photos... saying they appear to be at least 1 1/2 years old, and that only one of the workers is still employed at the Payload Operations Center.

The photos were sent in to NASAWatch by a former Huntsville worker.

"The pictures ... are not indicative of the performance of the overall team," said Roy. "They're isolated incidents."

"This is serious to us. We're extremely concerned about it," Roy added.

Of course, as more companies look at adding nap facilities to offices... maybe those workers are onto something. After all... well-rested workers are productive workers. As for the person caught playing cards, well -- that's a display of aptitude at math, right?
