Military Jets Return Along With World-Class Aerobatic Performers
The California Capital Airshow (CCA), presented by Sacramento County, will open its gates this weekend at Mather Airport. The show welcomes back the United States military with single-ship demonstrations by the United States Air Force F-22 Raptor Demonstration Team and the United States Marine Corps AV-8B Harrier Jump Jet, world-class aerobatics, parachute demonstrations, wing walking, pyrotechnics and miles of interactive displays and entertainment along the ramp.
To accompany the aerial performances, Aerojet Rocketdyne’s Space and Aviation LaunchPad 2.0 returns to the show to encourage interests of young adults and their involvement in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) related fields. The Kid’s Zone and SAFE Credit Union’s DREAM BIG Pavilion returns with even more interactive and educational fun this year, the show's organizers said in a news release.
The Show also showcases 'Stars & Stripes Forever’, a salute to veterans and the Greatest Generation. Attendees can step back in time with an authentic theatrical production featuring professional military re-enactors, a parade of vintage warbirds, tanks, live USO-style music, costumes and pyrotechnics. 2014 is the 70th anniversary of the D-Day Invasion and this colorful, emotional tribute is a fitting way to honor one of the most important events of the 20th century, while showing gratitude to the men and women who serve and sacrifice in order to provide the freedoms we all enjoy today.
“The whole family can enjoy a weekend filled with thrilling performances, and hands-on interactive exhibits that let the imagination run wild,” said Darcy Brewer, executive director of the California Capital Airshow. “The CCA team and our dedicated volunteers have worked tirelessly to bring Sacramento the best of aviation and endless entertainment, both fun and educational. We have planned an unforgettable show, and we are excited to spend the weekend surrounded by our fans and aviation enthusiasts alike.”
