USAF Launches First 'Unmanned' B-2

In Fact, It's All-Woman

When the Air Force says it's launched it's first unmanned B-2 Spirit bomber, you might, at first, consider it one of the world's biggest UAVs. Not so. In this case, unmanned means all-woman.

USAF Maj. Kristin Goodwin and Capt. Jenn Jeffords have become the Air Force's first all-female B-2 crew. They made their first flight together last month, aboard the Spirit of Mississippi.

They practiced conventional bombing and refueled with a KC-135 Stratotanker from Altus Air Force Base (OK). Both are assigned to the 325th Bomb Squadron at Whiteman AFB (MO).

Major Goodwin has been a B-2 pilot since May 2002. Captain Jeffords became B-2-certified in August.
