Modern Begins FBO Ops At Charlotte Douglas Int’l

Location Is 19th In U.S., Puerto Rico Network

Modern Aviation has commenced FBO operations at the CLT Executive Terminal at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (KCLT) in Charlotte, North Carolina. This is Modern Aviation’s 19th location and the second in North Carolina along with Wilmington International (KILM).

Modern was selected as the winning bidder in January 2025 through a competitive Request for Proposal process by the City of Charlotte. The 20-year management services contract calls for Modern to manage the FBO as well as a commitment to upgrade the terminal with construction beginning later this year or early next year.

Its commitment to the City extends to using local vendors for its procurement processes. In addition and to ensure continuity of services, Modern offered positions to all current FBO employees, with nearly all accepting roles with the new operation.

Ted Kaplan, Chief Business and Innovation Officer at Charlotte Douglas International Airport said, “As we look to the future with Modern Aviation, we are excited to introduce a new era of private aviation in Charlotte – one driven by innovation, elevated service and a focus on exceeding the evolving needs of our customers.”

Modern Aviation CEO Mark Carmen said, “We are thrilled to expand our presence at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, a key general aviation hub in North America. This marks an exciting new chapter at CLT as we will continue to provide exceptional service, and integrate our safety culture, to elevate the experience for our customers.”

The FBO facility encompasses over 220,000 sf of hangar space and 100,000 sf of offices. It offers a full range of services including ground handling and support for aircraft, catering, and de-icing. There are two executive conference rooms, two pilot lounges, crew cars, and a complimentary hospitality bar. Contract maintenance and repair are available on the field.

KCLT ranks as the 29th busiest general aviation airport for business jet traffic, according to FAA data and is a 15-minute drive from downtown Charlotte.
