Aero-TV: Garmin GTN Updates - The 6th Round of Software Upgrades

New Products and Features From Garmin...

ANN news editor, Tom Patton, covered reports from Garmin about changes and upgrades to their GTN products in a press briefing, and he decided to get more details. So, he stopped by the Garmin display to speak with Garmin's Jim Alpiser, who is their Director of Aviation Aftermarket Sales, to get a personal interview about what's going on.

Alpiser said this is actually the sixth upgrade to Garmin's GTN 650 and 750 products. The list of updates and changes is long and, as Alpiser explains them, the video provides a detailed picture of what is actually happening. However, a feature he highlighted included what Garmin refers to as animated NEXRAD radar displays. This allows the pilot to save past displays which allows an animation to be run showing the movement and intensity of the radar return.

Alpiser also introduced Tom to their new audio panel referred to as the, GMA 350c. He said the C stands for connected, which means it includes a Bluetooth interface. This provides telephone access and connectivity with their Garmin Pilot app. He also talks about the new GMA 35 which interfaces with Garmin's GTN 750 product. As he explains the system, it proves that a video is worth 1000 words.

The discussion and demonstration moves on into features that would be of interest to instrument pilots, but the best news you'll probably hear in this video is that the upgrade will be available at no cost to operators who already have a Garmin 650 or 750 system installed.
