Teens With Drone Help Solve Boat Theft

Followed The Suspects As Far As They Could And Alerted Police

Two teenagers with a camera-equipped UAV helped police catch some suspected boat thieves this week on Camano Island in Washington State.

The two San Francisco, CA teens, Chris Harris and a friend, were visiting at a family vacation home. They had tied up a boat to a buoy Tuesday evening.

ABC News reports that late Wednesday morning, they heard a boat coming from the area where they had moored their boat. Looking out the window, they saw the alleged thieves tying their boat to a speed boat and pulling away.

They called 911, and launched the DJI Phantom drone with a 4K camera on board. They followed the alleged thieves as long as they could at 50 miles per hours, but eventually lost the perps.

However, when police viewed the video, they were able to determine the perp’s last location and direction of travel, and from that information they came up with a likely destination. When the suspects arrived, the police were waiting for them.

The two suspects, who were not identified, were arrested. Authorities said the case was "highly unique and interesting."
