Comcast will partner with the Aerial Sports League to host The Xfinity California Drone Speed Challenge – Level 2.
Starting this month, drone pilot teams will compete in a multi-week, eSports-style “virtual qualifier” series through the VelociDrone racing simulator while winning teams will move on to compete, live, on July 19 for the championship at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, CA. A $25,000 prize purse is up for grabs as the fastest drone teams compete in California’s biggest drone racing event. Comcast will also contribute another $25,000 to a local non-profit organization in the name of the winning team. If there is a more dramatic demonstration of the many potential benefits posed by unmanned aircraft, the surveillance of volcanic activity in Hawaii would have to be near the top of any list. The video and data collected by unmanned platforms have been used to inform the researchers, educate the public and save lives! Just a few days ago, a UAS mission filmed details of the dramatic changes occurring within a crater at Kilauea's summit since explosive eruptions began in mid-May. In
