AD: Piaggio

AD NUMBER: 2010-23-01

MANUFACTURER: Piaggio Aero Industries S.p.A. Model PIAGGIO P-180 Airplanes.
SUBJECT: Airworthiness Directive 2010-23-01

SUMMARY: This AD results from mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) issued by an aviation authority of another country to identify and correct an unsafe condition on an aviation product. The MCAI describes the unsafe condition as:

Some cases of corrosion were detected in the interface between the elevator hinges fittings (metallic) and the horizontal stabilizer (carbon fiber); investigation identified the cause in galvanic corrosion between dissimilar materials.

If left uncorrected, this situation could lead to a structural failure of the elevator, which could result in possible loss of control of the airplane.

The FAA is issuing this AD to require actions to correct the unsafe condition on these products.
