Living History Flight Experience In Attack Helicopter Available

The Army Aviation Heritage Foundation Has Its Historic Helicopter, The Cobra 589, On Display At Yanks Air Museum With An Option To Experience A Mission Ride

For a limited time, individuals can visit Yanks Air Museum in Chino, CA to not only see the historic Bell AH-1F Cobra 589 but to experience a mission ride in the same helicopter that flew combat tours in Vietnam.

The Cobra 589, also known as “The Black Pearl,” is owned and operated by the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation (AAHF) whose membership is comprised mostly of US Army Vietnam Veterans.  The Cobra 589 will be on display at Yanks Air Museum through September 2017. The public can also schedule standard and extended mission rides where the AAHF demonstrates the capabilities of the helicopter in combat on most Wednesdays through September.

“We are beyond thrilled to partner with the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation to showcase such an important piece of America’s aviation history. We share the same goal of preserving America’s Aviation History and our visitors have been ecstatic to see it and ride in it,” said Christen Wright, Director at Yanks Air Museum.

The AAHF’s Cobra is the only Cobra that is approved by the FAA to sell rides to the public in the western United States. The cost of the standard mission ride is $325 and the cost of the extended mission ride is $525.

“The Cobra 589 is very unique. It was designed as the first attack helicopter in the world. We are happy to offer mission rides to the public so they can see history in action and have a better understanding of America’s aviation history,” said Steve Lund of the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation.

Those who purchase a general admission ticket to Yanks Air Museum from June 20th to July 31st will be entered to win a standard mission ride in the Cobra 589.
