Rocker's Helicopter Antics Once Again Run Afoul Of LAPD

Tommy Lee, Seriously... Take A Hearse Next Time

When it comes to bad pairings, rocker Tommy Lee should probably add rotorcraft to his list of things to avoid, in addition to ex-wife Pamela Anderson. For the second time in three years, a helicopter with Lee onboard has run afoul of authorities.

Citing a report by the august news organization TMZ.com, Fox reports Los Angeles police forced a helicopter transporting the former Motley Crue drummer to land at Van Nuys Regional Airport Sunday. The LAPD claimed Lee's helicopter flew underneath and "too close" to one of their police helicopters.

All indications are Lee was merely along for the ride. Police found his pilot, identified as David Martz, at a nearby hotel about 10 minutes after the forced landing. Police believe Martz had been drinking... if not before or during the flight, then immediately after.

Aero-News has documented Lee's previous antics regarding helicopters. In July 2006, Lee commissioned a helicopter -- piloted by Martz, incidentally -- to land in front of his Hollywood Hills residence, to ferry Lee and his entourage to a Nine Inch Nails concert. The helicopter actually made two trips, both over neighbor objections and city statutes.

Even that wasn't the first time the hard-partying rock star had chopper trouble. In 2004, the Los Angeles fire marshal forbade Motley Crue from landing their helicopter at the Hollywood Palladium for a concert.

Instead, the band arrived in a hearse.
