FAA To Conduct GPS Interference Testing On The Southeast U.S. Coast

Signals May Be Degraded During The Test Period Dec. 4-16

The FAA in conjunction with the U.S. Navy Carrier Strike Group 4 will be conducting GPS interference testing over the next two weeks.

The testing will be centered 48 nautical miles offshore on the 137 degree radial of the Charleston VORTAC, accordig to a NOTAM issued by the FAA.

The testing periods include:

- 4 DEC 16 1200Z – 2100Z
- 7 DEC 16 1600Z – 2100Z
- 9 DEC 16 0100Z – 0800Z and 1200Z – 1700Z
- 10 DEC 16 1200Z – 1600Z
- 13 DEC 16 1500Z – 2000Z

Each event may last the entire requested period.

GPS, including WAAS, GBAS and ADS-B may not be available within a 294 NM radius from the testing center from FL400 - unlimited and decreasing area as altitude decreases as follows:

- 248NM RADIUS AT FL250
- 180NM RADIUS AT 10000FT
- 134NM RADIUS AT 4000FT AGL
- 071NM RADIUS AT 50FT AGL

Pilots are encouraged to report anomalies only when ATC assistance is required, and to continue to check NOTAMS as the information is subject to change with little or no notice.
