Field Aviation’s ADS-B Out Solution Is Now Available For Classic Dash 8s

First Prefabricated Kits Being Delivered Now

Field Aviation has completed its development of its Dash 8 100/200/300 Series ADS-B Out solution, and will be delivering the first prefabricated kit this week. Building on Field Aviation’s extensive knowledge of the Dash 8 fleet, and on its existing TC-, FAA- and EASA-approved Elementary Surveillance Transponder STC, the design provides a standardized approach to operators, allowing them to implement a common configuration across their fleet.

The ADS-B Out modification, in conjunction with Field’s expertise, allows us to cater to all serial numbers of the classic Dash 8s. It has standardized architecture for the three main components needed for ADS-B Out; a transponder system, an accurate GPS source, and Air Data Computer (ADC) information.

Field Aviation’s transponder system STCs are on over half of the classic Dash 8 fleet today, reducing the installation requirements for operators. Field Aviation can also provide an ADS-B Out modification that will address all transponder types should operators not have these STCs already installed.

The GPS source comes from the Flight Management System (FMS), and operators should be aware that their aircraft might require an FMS upgrade for more accurate positioning. Field Aviation offers WAAS FMS upgrades (UNS-1Ew, -1Fw and -1Lw), all of which have optional Localizer Performance with Vertical Guidance (LPV) capability and meet the TSO-C146c requirements that are being imposed by regulatory authorities.

“There are companies who entered the marketplace early with ADS-B Out modifications that only catered to specific regional requirements,” said Rob Baseggio, Vice President, Business Development at Field Aviation. “Our strategy was to develop a modification which allows a standardized approach for the classic Dash 8 fleet, once the regulatory requirements were clearly defined and the avionics OEMs had finalized their equipment. We now have this stability in the market, and what we offer doesn’t require a customized design for each operator.”

Field Aviation’s ADS-B Out classic Dash 8 solution is compatible with Field Aviation’s flight deck modernization program, which removes over 40 1970s era LRUs, positioning fleets for many more productive years of operation.
