Court Orders Sale Of Aircraft Including P-51D

Sale To Satisfy An Estate To Begin June 2

Some fortunate bidder has an opportunity to pick up a rare P-51D airplane early next month, as the Probate Court of Los Angeles has ordered it to be sold, along with an additional Packard Rolls Royce V150-9 Engine. Two other airplanes are also being offered for sale.

The company auctioning the aircraft is CWS Marketing, which did not disclose the reason for the court order.  The P-51D is not in airworthy conditions. The company says that information it has on the aircraft indicates it has not been flown since the 1970’s having been stored since that time. Untouched for at least 10+ years; Partially disassembled, with tail, horizontal stabilizers and cowlings removed; Canopy has crazing and discoloration; Paint oxidized; Cockpit and engine compartment has corrosion and metal degradation. All avionics and electrical wiring in the cockpit appear to be corroded and degraded. All instruments, faceplates, and gauges require refurbishment or overhaul. The aircraft requires full restoration.  Also included in sale are (4) Yellow Aircraft Jacks, (1) Gray Jack, (2) Propellers, (1) Newman Compressor, (1) Box of Straps, (1) Appliance Dolly, (1) Red Tank, (1) Fedders Air Conditioner. The FAA registry gives a manufacture date for the airplane as 1958. There are no logbooks or an airworthiness certificate for the airplane. A bid deposit of $25,000 is required to qualify.

Also in the auction is a 1950 Temco GC-1B Swift. The information provided shows 2328.58 hrs. (Tach); Airframe and engine hours in service are tracked using a Tach currently reading 2328.58; Condition appears to be average

The engine is a Continental C-125, time since last overhaul is unknown. There are also no logbooks for the swift. Avionics include a Collins VIR 351, Apollo 612B, Collins TDR 950, Swiftronics RT-100, EGT, Sigtronics SPA 400.

There are no records available indicating the completion of any annual inspections. The transponder recertification date is not known. The airplane's exterior is described as being "Low Average." It is not known when the aircraft was last flown.

The final two lots in the auction consist of a Packard Rolls-Royce V-1650-9 engine, and a 1942 Ryan PT-22 (ST-3KR) Project: Consisting of fuselage, wings, landing gear, wheels, two engines, propellers and non-inventoried Aircraft Jacks, Propellers, Compressor, A/C Unit & Misc. Shop Items located at both Torrance and Compton airports.

An aircraft logbook dated 1/28/52 indicating a starting accumulated flight time of 1300 hours delineating maintenance performed through 2/23/60 when after a periodic inspection the aircraft was found to be un-airworthy.

No logbooks are available for the engine.

Bidding opens on June 2 at 10:00 AM PDST (1:00 pm EST), and closes 48 hours later. Preview of the items is by appointment only.
