Airplane Impacts House In Oregon

NTSB: No 'Catastrophic Engine Issues' With The Airplane

An airplane that went down in McMinnville, OR Monday impacting a house and resulting in the fatal injury of the pilot suffered "no catastrophic engine issues" prior to the accident, according to the NTSB.

Television Station KOIN reports that in a news conference, NTSB officials said that the pilot, 56-year-old Charles W. Yochelson of Sheridan, OR, had recently refueled his airplane. He had circled McMinnville Municipal Airport several times before the accident "troubleshooting landing gear issues." The airplane went down about 1315 local time.

A witness, Noel Branscome, had been walking in the neighborhood when the plane went down. "I heard this sput, sput, pop, crack," he said. Branscome said it appeared the pilot was trying to restart the engine when the plane entered a spin and impacted the house.

Yochelson was the only person on board the airplane, and the house was empty when the accident occurred. No one on the ground was injured.
