Sinclair Community College Developing Aviation Training Center

Partners With PSA Airlines To Recruit And Train Students

Sinclair Community College in Dayton, OH is partnering with PSA Airlines to develop an aviation training center at Dayton International Airport (KDAY).

Television station WDTN reports that Clay Pittman, the chair of the Aviation Technology Department at Sinclair, said the program would take over an unused hangar at the airport and turn it into a training facility with enough room to run engines and work on aircraft. The plan also calls for classroom space.

Along with a shortage of pilots, there is an anticipated shortage of trained aviation maintenance personnel in the coming years. The training center would prepare the next generation of mechanics and maintainers, and act as a pipeline to prepare them for the workforce.

KDAY interim director Gil Turner said that locating the center at the airport also gives students the opportunity to gain experience working at an actual airport.

Sinclair already works with PSA for aircraft dispatchers and flight attendants, according to Pittman.

Renovation of the hangar is expected to cost around $300,000, according to the report.
