Accidental Foam Release Fills Fort Drum Hangar

Fire System Alarm Box Was Being Repaired At The Time

A hangar at Fort Drum in New York state filled with fire-suppressing foam on Wednesday, but the 10th Mountain Division said the foam release was accidental.

The Watertown Daily Times reports that, according to 10th Mountain Division spokesman Lt. Col. Donald A. Korpi, the foam released during a system reset after a manual alarm box was accidentally dislodged.

The discharge filled the hangar where six Black Hawk helicopters are housed with an eight-foot deep layer of foam. While a mess to clean up, there were no reported injuries and the helicopters were undamaged, according to Korpi.

The Fort Drum fire department responded to the accidental discharge. Authorities said that the foam dissolves in tap water.
