SMA Earns Diesel STC for C-182

Compression Ignition Now an Option for Skylane Owners

We've learned that the French authority, DGAC, delivered the Supplementary Type Certificates for the SMA SR305-230 powered F182 and C182, on Thursday, September 18th.

The Supplemental Type Certificate (number C81SF001) covers the installation of the engine on Reims Aviation aircraft. The certificate CIM15SF001 is applicable to 182s produced by the Cessna Aircraft Company in the US.

SMA says, "The STCs are the result of extensive work and patience and mark an important milestone for SMA, and most important of all, for our customers!"

A flight demonstrations tour will begin by the end of October, in collaboration with "Aviation Sans Frontire," owner of the first SMA-diesel 182. The Skylane will stop in every European country where SMA is represented: France, Germany, Belgium, United-Kingdom, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and Switzerland.

The international validation of the STCs is in process with the National Authorities where SMA has customers and distributors, and written requests have already been forwarded to these.

These STCs have enabled SMA to accumulate a knowledge and expertise which will be used to benefit other upcoming STC programmes (TB 20 and PA 28) and for the aircraft manufacturers who have joined the growing SMA client base such as Maule, Vulcanair, NAL, Cirrus and more.

ANN has asked about the technical aspects of the STS -- range, weights, prices -- and we promise a followup when we can get the information.
