American Eagle Shops Regional Carriers Following Union Vote

Letter To Employees Says Rejection Of Pilot Contract Leaves Them No Other Options

The rejection of a 10-year contract by the American Eagle pilot's Master Executive Council (MEC) leaves the main airline with "no choice but to begin looking for another regional carrier," according to a letter sent to all Eagle employees.

The rejection by the MEC means that the 3,000 line pilots who fly for American Eagle will not vote on the contract.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that the letter came from American Eagle president Pedro Fabregas. The deal that was rejected by the MEC would have allowed the airline to purchase new Embraer 175 jets in return for concessions. In a memo, union chairman William Sprague said that "our pilots decided they were not willing to work for less than the company is already paying our peers."

American Eagle is slated to be re-branded as "Envoy" by the mainline carrier this spring.
