Sky Shuttle Helicopter Introduces First All-Female Crew

Will Operate Flights Between Hong Kong And Macau

Sky Shuttle Helicopters Limited is pleased to announce that today, on May 6, Captain Meg Lam and First Officer Kirsty Holtkamp became the company’s first ever all-female helicopter crew to operate flights between Hong Kong and Macau.

Captain Meg Lam, who was born and raised in Hong Kong, fell in love with the helicopter when she was in Form 5. “After completing a university preparatory course, I joined Sky Shuttle as a Ground Safety Controller (GSC)”, she recalled. The responsibility of a GSC includes ensuring ground safety, refueling helicopters on the helideck, moving the passenger step-ladders and loading passengers’ baggage, all of which requires physical strength and stamina. “The window of opportunity opened for me in 2002 when Sky Shuttle launched a Cadet Pilot Program for Hong Kong and Macau residents. I was selected and then participated in a 9-month training course in Australia and graduated as a First Officer.” In 2012, Meg became a Captain with Sky Shuttle and now she has over 11 years of flying experience. “I find it a rewarding experience delivering my passengers to their destinations safely. The utilization of one of the most advanced helicopters of today - the AgustaWestland AW139 - is an added bonus,” she said.

Born in the Netherlands, Kirsty has been always amazed by helicopters. Flying remained a dream for a long time until she found a way to achieve this dream, in the United States. “I started training in Florida and fell in love with flying.  I joined Sky Shuttle because of the high safety standards, urban scenery, dynamic environment, interesting weather patterns and of course the AW139 helicopter. I love to fly between Hong Kong and Macau. Every time I fly into Hong Kong harbour, I am fascinated with the view. And every night flight into Macau is a vibrant light show!”

The all-female crew marks a first for the company which says it demonstrates Sky Shuttle’s on-going commitment as an equal opportunity employer.
