Airborne 10.06.21: 2 More Gulfstreams!, Shatner To Space, 'Space' Balloons

Also: Flight Safety Foundation, Laser Strike On USCG Aircrew, Airport Infrastructure, Gogo AVANCE Upgrade

Gulfstream has taken the wraps off two all-new aircraft -- the Gulfstream G800, the longest-range aircraft in Gulfstream history, and the Gulfstream G400, an airplane they call the first new entrant to the large-cabin class in more than a decade.

The G800 offers customers the longest range in the Gulfstream fleet with its 8,000-nautical-mile range at Mach 0.85 and 7,000-nm range at Mach 0.90. The G800 is powered by Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 engines and features the Gulfstream-designed wing and winglet introduced on the Gulfstream G700. William Shatner, star of classic spacefaring series Star Trek, is the newest addition to Blue Origin's NS-18 flight set for launch on October 12. This comes on the heels of its first successful manned spaceflight in July, which brought four astronauts on an 11-minute voyage over 300,000 feet. Shatner is joined by Audrey Powers, longtime employee and overseer of Blue Origin's flight operations. How would you like to check out the stratosphere in style? In 2024 balloon trips taking you there are set to begin. As the newest iteration of the space race heats up between competing high-altitude tourism companies, the unorthodox World View is offering tickets to the stratosphere in a balloon. World View believes passengers want more time in the air, and designed the best “room with a view” one could ask for. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
