Commits For 10 737-8 And Four 787-9 Aircraft

Somon Air, the national airline of Tajikistan, and Boeing announced the airline committed to purchase up to 14 Boeing airliners, to include four 787 Dreamliners and 10 737 MAX aircraft. The order will support Somon Air’s fleet expansion internationally and modernizes its all-737 single-aisle fleet.

Somon Air is currently operating six Next-Gen 737s to 25 European, Asian, and Middle Eastern destinations from Tajikistan. This order is the airline’s first-ever for the 787-9 widebody aircraft and enable it to launch new intercontinental routes from Dushanbe, providing its passengers with enhanced comfort. The 737-8 aircraft will be the workhorse of its short- and medium-haul network.

Together, the new aircraft will yield a 20-25 percent improvement in fuel consumption compared to the jets being replaced, translating into lower per-seat and maintenance costs.

The agreement was signed during the 10th anniversary of the diplomatic gathering, C5+1 Summit, and will support more than 10,000 jobs across the U.S.
