Mother Nature Is No Fun -- NOLA Navy Week Airshows Cancelled

Believe It Or Not; Blue Angels Performance Canceled Due To... Waves

OK... we've heard every excuse in t he book as to why an airshow performance or routine has to be curtailed or canceled... and while they're usually more than valid and this one is most certainly serious... it's also the weirdest we've heard in a long time (and mind you, we've been at this for a while).

Still; you have to admit canceling a much anticipated Blue Angels performance due to "High Seas" has to hurt.

OK... let's be specific, yesterday and today's shows were canceled because (really) high seas prevented the Coast Guard from positioning much needed stabilizing markers in water for Blue Angels. The decision wasn't made lightly... After monitoring the weather with officials at the National Weather Service, NOLA (New Orleans, Louisiana) Navy Week officials decided to call off the Blue Angels airshows scheduled yesterday, Saturday, April 21 as well as another that was supposed to be flown today, Sunday, April 22.

The predicted high winds gusting across Lake Ponchartrain are preventing the ability to stabilize the visual markers the pilots use while doing maneuvers. The wind is predicted to be so strong that it is expected to force sand and mud over the seawall blocking the length of Lakeshore Drive where the show was to take place.

Event officials thanked everyone for understanding and hope the crowds will take advantage of the remaining days of NOLA Navy Week by visiting the tall ships and Navy vessels and enjoying New Orleans food, music, and culture.

But, still... no airshow. Curse you, Mother Nature!
