New UAV Technology Dubbed 'Flying Security Guard'

Designed To Patrol Autonomously, Can Self-Dock And Recharge

New UAV technology based on a DJI S1000+ platform has been christened the "flying security guard" by its developers.

Aptonomy has taken the commercial drone platform and added features that will allow the aircraft to fly autonomously, as well as day- and night-vision cameras, spotlights, and loudspeakers.

The aircraft uses sense-and-avoid technology to patrol any area without human intervention, but the company says on its website that "(i)n a live monitoring scenario, you can adjust the drone's viewpoint and move it around safely in real-time — even from hundreds of miles away."

The aircraft comes with a self-charging dock that can be placed in a secure area. The UAV will automatically return to its dock and recharge. When used as part of a team, constant aerial monitoring is possible.

The San Francisco-based startup says its aircraft "deter potential intruders from entering the property in the first place due to our drones’ constant presence, overpowering size, and audio and visual deterrence technology." The UAVs also allow "human security guards to keep a safe distance from potentially risky encounters."

Potential buyers can request a demo from the company. No price has been set for the modified aircraft, but the base price for the DJI S1000+ is about $1,900.
