The ADS-B Specialist Continues its Market Dominance
General Aviation equipment supplier and avionics company uAvionix has announced a landmark accomplishment for the second quarter of 2022 following the shipment of the 50,000th unit of its widespread ADS-B OUT product line.
Their skyBeacon, tailBeacon, and tailBeaconX have each gained acclaim in the GA and sport aviation markets for their easy, convenient installation for those looking to achieve compliance with the post-2020 navigation equipment requirements to operate in some types of airspace. The simple, streamlined installation gained them many fans, with 50,000 (hopefully) happy customers out and about. The total includes those shipments for certified and uncertified aircraft.
Overall, the 50,000 GA ADS-B units only account for a small fraction of the total ADS-B products sent throughout every portion of the industry. Their commercial, UAS, and portable ADS-B equipment recently reached more than 600,000 shipped. Those may not be too apparent to identify as uAvionix equipment, given the co-branding with industry partners like Sentry in their ForeFlight-compatible receivers, or a litany of drone units, but they’re an integral part of the the new ADS-B landscape throughout the country. Recently, uAvionix achieved additional approvals for the UK, Australia, and New Zealand.
Paul Beard, CEO, noted the intimate connection with drone equipment with the company’s founding. “Our original vision for the company,” he said, “was that ADS-B was going to be a critical technology for the integration of drones into the airspace. I was scared to death of the prospect that a drone might take me out in my helicopter. We like to say that ‘ADS-B is drone repellent’ – If we could figure out how to miniaturize the technology for use on a drone and allow the drones to see and avoid me, we can solve a problem before it becomes a problem. We had a mission.”
