SpaceX May Launch First Falcon Heavy In November

Gwynne Shotwell Mentioned Date At Satellite 2016 Conference

SpaceX president Gwynne Shotwell said at the recent Satellite 2016 conference that the company is targeting November of this year for the first launch of the Falcon Heavy rocket.

Shotwells' remarks came as part of a presentation at the conference held at National Harbor, MD just outside Washington, D.C. last week. Space News reports that Shotwell said the Falcon Heavy launch is one of 16 planned by the company this year.

While Shotwell said that SpaceX does not need Launch Complex 39A at Cape Canaveral to be operational to work through its entire backlog, it does plan to launch the Falcon Heavy from the historic facility.  She said that the company would probably launch a Falcon 9 from that pad before it launches the Falcon Heavy in November. She said satellite and telecommunications company SES wants to boost a spacecraft from that pad, so "we are going to see if we can get that ready for SES-10 and maybe SES-11.”

Mark your calendars ...
