Did Senator Leahy Pull Rank On O'Hare Flight?

Judiciary Committee Chair's Flight From Chicago Seems To Have Gone To The Head Of The Line

Sitting number 31 for departure at Chicago's O'Hare International, the pilot of a flight that was already about an hour late pushing back from the gate on Sunday announced that he was going to power down the aircraft for about 30 minutes while they waited.

Senator Leahy

According to an e-mail from a Democratic Hill staffer to Politico, one of the passenegers on that plane was Senate Jucidiary Committee Chair Patrick Leahy (D-VT). When the seatbelt sign was turned off, he reportedly walked to the back of the plane.

Five minutes later, the pilot came back on the intercom and told the passengers "folks, we've just been given the go-ahead to take off."

When thanked by a fellow passenger, Leahy reportely said "the pilot said he'd do his best."

Maybe a coincidence ... but it certainly appears to be a bit fishy.
