Flight Attendants Assaulted On US Airways Flight

One Was Hospitalized Due To His Injuries

A flight attendant aboard a US Airways flight getting ready to depart from Charlotte, NC to Fort Lauderdale, FL was hospitalized last Tuesday following a fight that broke out on the airplane.

USA Today relays a report from WCNC-TV in Charlotte that, just after the plane pushed back from its gate, there was "yelling and screaming" at the back of the plane. Two flight attendants went to quiet the situation, and a passenger allegedly punched both FAs, resulting in serious injuries to a 54-year-old crewmember. The other FA was reported to be 34 years old.

Other passengers said that the person was screaming about "assassins" on the plane. The pilots returned to the gate, and the passenger was arrested without further incident. The older flight attendant was carried off the plane on a stretcher, according to the report.

Authorities said the alleged assailant would undergo a mental evaluation, and would be charged with assault after he is released from medical custody.

The plane eventually departed for Fort Lauderdale after the situation was addressed.
