Classic Aero-TV: Zenith SportPlanes – Slow Takeoff-Landing/Fast Building

From 2015 (YouTube Version): Highly Regarded, Long-Time SportPlane Manufacturer Exhibits Staying Power

In this video, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, sat down with Sebastien Heintz, the president and owner of the Zenith aircraft company at their home facility in Mexico, MO. At first glance, their facility looks like just another large hanger on an airport. However, as the video progresses you’ll see just how advanced an airplane kit building production plant can be.

Heintz says their success is based on principles established by his father when the company began in the 1970s. That is, build a good product and treat the customers correctly. He then goes on to say that while the business principle is the same, the way they get it done has changed.

Heintz points out that modern production techniques make the kit easier to build and provide safety through consistency in the assembly process. He credits such devices as the CNC machine for renewing the popularity of amateur-built all metal aircraft.

Jim asked Sebastian how his company has managed to thrive in an industry that has certainly had its shares of ups and downs. Heintz answers by providing interesting insights to the Zenith Company as well as the kit airplane business as a whole. The video shows you the kit production process, and we think you’ll find it fascinating to see just how much goes into producing an airplane kit project that stands a high likelihood of being completed by the builder.
