Four US Troops Lost In Iraq Helicopter Accident

Two Helos, Types Unknown, Crashed Near Kirkuk

Four American soldiers were killed Monday when two US helicopters, types unreported, crashed in Northern Iraq.

Few details are available about the circumstances surrounding the mishap, though the US military said the crash "does not appear to be by enemy action."

A military spokesman told The Associated Press the crash occurred at approximately 2:15 am in the Tamim province. Unnamed Iraqi officials added the crash site was about 20 miles west of Kirkuk.

The loss is the deadliest single incident for US troops in Iraq in over four months. As ANN reported, seven US soldiers were killed when their CH-47 Chinook crashed the night of September 18, 2008, near Basra.

Defense Department officials have not released the identities of the victims of Monday's apparent accident.
