Authorities Investigate Possible Bullet-Holes On Orlando-Bound Plane

US Airways Plane May Have Been Hit By Groundfire

The FBI is taking a hard look at several suspicious holes found in the hull of a US Airways Airbus after it landed in Orlando last week. Local authorities say they look for all the world like they were caused by bullets hitting the aircraft.

FBI officials told WKMG-TV they had been "notified by airline officials and the Orlando Police Department that they have reason to believe these are what looked like bullet holes" in the plane's fuselage.

The aircraft, designated US Airways Flight 309 on its last revenue flight between SFO and Orlando, was deadheaded to Charlotte Douglas International Airport (NC), where it was being thoroughly examined by both maintenance crews and the FBI.

"We know it didn't happen in Orlando and we need to determine if they are even bullet holes," an unidentified FBI spokesman in Charlotte told the WKMG.

The airline so far isn't talking about the incident.
