IS&S Receives STC For Flat Panel Display System On B757

A Touch Of Glass For Popular Narrowbody

Representatives with Innovative Solutions & Support, Inc. told ANN Tuesday the Federal Aviation Administration has issued a Supplemental Type Certification (STC) for use of the company's Cockpit/IP Flat Panel Display System on Boeing 757s.

"The issuance of this STC offers the operators of approximately 900 B757 aircraft a Flat Panel Display System upgrade at a time when there is unprecedented demand for existing B757s," says Geoffrey S. M. Hedrick, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of IS&S. "In just the last few years, the value of existing B757 aircraft has more than doubled in price, providing operators with the incentive to retrofit their aircraft with modern technology that can reduce the cost of operation, increase safety, and provide the growth path for future requirements. Our Flat Panel Display upgrade provides all these benefits and more, and it can provide a payback on investment on par with virtually any other improvement the operator can make to their aircraft."

The state-of-the-art Cockpit/IP from IS&S is an all-glass cockpit offering AMLCD displays for Primary Flight (PFD) and Navigation (ND), as well as Multi-Function Display capability. This receipt of an STC for the Boeing 757 complements the existing IS&S STC on the Boeing 767s.

Available options for the Cockpit/IP Flat Panel Display retrofit from IS&S will be Class 3 electronic flight bag capabilities that consist of electronic navigation charts powered by Jeppesen, and applications such as takeoff, en route, approach, landing, missed approach, and go-around information.

Notably, Class 3 e-charts from IS&S will display own-ship position to pilots through a digital representation of the aircraft’s exact, real-time position on the runway, or in the air. IS&S e-charts will be installed in the forward view of the pilot on the aircraft’s multifunction display and include critical zoom features, making the Class 3 e-charts larger and easier to read, and improving the pilot’s ability to operate the aircraft.

The STC is the latest IS&S has earned to bring its glass cockpits to older aircraft. As Aero-News reported earlier this month, the company recently received an STC for its retrofit option for Cessna Citation jets. IS&S also installs glass cockpits in such aircraft as the Pilatus PC-12, and Boeing 767 (shown at right; B757 installation similar).

Headquartered in Exton, PA, Innovative Solutions & Support, Inc. designs, manufactures, and markets flight information computers, electronic displays, and advanced monitoring systems that measure and display critical flight information. This includes data relative to aircraft separation (RVSM), airspeed, and altitude, as well as engine and fuel data measurements.
