Hundreds Of Brilliantly Colored Parachutes, Canopies
To Fill The Sky Over Fantasy Of Flight
Enjoy the changing colors of "fall" over central Florida as
hundreds of multi-color parachutes and canopies decorate the autumn
skies during the National Skydiving League Competition "SkyQuest."
Over 200 skydivers will "fall" more than 2000 times creating a
cacophony of color over Fantasy of Flight during the 4th Annual
SkyQuest, Friday, November 19th through Sunday, November 21st,
2004. The three day competition offers the chance to see skydivers
from all over the world compete in aerobatics, Kaleidoscope Dives,
Accuracy Challenges, and the famous Fantasy Swoop.
Kaleidoscope Dives are the intricate aerial formations made by
as many as 100 skydivers prior to opening their parachutes. Their
visually distinct geometric shapes are similar to the shifting
images you see when looking through a kaleidoscope. The Accuracy
Challenge consists of 5 teams, of 5 members, who attempt to land on
ground targets for points. The Fantasy Swoop event is the most
dynamic event at SkyQuest. Skydivers jump from an altitude of less
than one mile (which is easily visible to the public), open their
parachutes quickly and then set up for a 40 - 60 MPH swoop landing,
right in front of the crowd. The event requires competitors to
actually make contact with the water on their swoop landing before
they then control their high performance wings to a precision
landing.
Each day of the event spectators have the chance to mingle with
the skydivers and participate in tandem jumps to learn first hand
what it takes to be successful in this challenging sport. Saturday,
November 20th is "Family Day" with special activities, with fun for
both kids and SkyQuest participants. Visitors have access to all
SkyQuest events with their Fantasy of Flight admission.
Much more than an aviation museum, Fantasy of Flight is home to
the "World’s Greatest Aircraft Collection" featuring over 70
beautifully restored rare and vintage aircraft, Corsair flight
simulators, daily restoration shop & back-lot tours, aircraft
of the day flights, a gift shop and the art deco "Compass Rose
Diner" open daily for breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Fantasy of
Flight is located midway between Tampa and Orlando off I-4.
