New SafeRoute+ Retrofit Solution Minimizes Installation Costs So Airlines Can Realize The Safety And Financial Benefits of ADS-B In
ACSS, an L3 Technologies and Thales Company, has launched SafeRoute+, an ADS-B In retrofit solution for airlines. This new design, including an all-new display, enables airlines to enhance safety and efficiency and improves on-time performance without extensive and costly cockpit modifications.

“Our new design is a significant advancement for the airline industry. It’s the only retrofit cockpit surveillance system available for ADS-B In technology,” said Terry Flaishans, president of ACSS, part of L3’s Commercial Aviation sector. “The new ADS-B Guidance Display makes upgrades affordable and yields a much higher return on our customers’ investment. Pilots like it because they can see all the information about surrounding aircraft, including speed and distance; airlines like it because it ensures efficiency and improves the time it takes to turn flights and maintain profitable schedules.”
SafeRoute+’s ADS-B In applications are hosted on their TCAS 3000SP or T3CAS computers and executed using the existing Navigation Display (ND) and Multi-function Control and Display Unit (MCDU), as well as the new ADS-B Guidance Display (AGD) from ACSS.
Pilots are finding SafeRoute+ easy to learn, and the new retrofit architecture makes it practical and economical for operators to start using ADS-B In applications in 2020. SafeRoute+ currently offers five applications, which increase situational awareness, reduce missed approaches, enable higher achievable throughput, optimize spacing buffers and reduce fuel burn, thereby lowering carbon emissions. Operators can choose the applications that best align with their specific operations. The first generation of SafeRoute was certified using Class 3 Electronic Flight Bags (EFBs); the new SafeRoute+ architecture eliminates the need for these costly Class 3 EFB devices. SafeRoute+ is expected to be certified in the third quarter of this year.
