Drone Racing League Selling Street-Ready Variant Of Its Racing Drone

Introduces The DRL Racer4 Street On Kickstarter

The Drone Racing League has taken to Kickstarter to launch its "street-ready" variant of the racing drone that will be used by all pilots in the 2019 DRL / Allianz World Championship Season.

According to the Kickstarter page, the DRL Racer 4 Street has been produced in response to "many" requests to purchase a Racer3. DRL answered the demand with the “Street Version” of its next generation drone.

DRL says this is a true, field-ready version of the DRL Racer4 drone, featuring the same power configuration as is used in the racing drone; A 5S power system, 2510 stator and 7x4x3 props. It generates a massive 1,850g per motor at an efficient 34A.  DRL says it will be redesigning the electronics system to support off the shelf radios and simple part replacement. If you break it, no problem – its been made easy to fix.

Somewhere between the batmobile and stealth jet fighter, the R4 canopy has been strengthened with more rigid polycarbonate and infused self tapping fasteners.

The DRL Racer4 has 1,000 LEDs specifically made for animating sponsor logos and ensuring visible racing on broadcast. While the Racer4 Street has 100 LEDs, DRL says it is working to integrate a new lighting system that will achieve the same aesthetic as its pro drones.

"We’re excited to design a rig that can be used for field flight. From removable arms, integrated ESCs and FCs to plug and play electronics," the company said on Kickstarter. "This is a platform that embodies the flight characteristics of the TV drone with the build characterics of a field rig."

The campaign has a goal of $350,000. It is an "All or Nothing" campaign, meaning it will only be funded if the goal is reached by October 5. A pledge of $599 will put you in line to receive one of the new drones, with an estimated delivery of April 2020. As of this writing, just under $6,000 has been pledged toward the $350,000 goal.
