At the request of U.S. national security and law enforcement agencies, the FAA is using its existing authority under 14 CFR § 99.7 – “Special Security Instructions” – to address concerns about unauthorized drone operations over 10 Department of the Interior (DOI) sites, including the Statue of Liberty and Mount Rushmore. 'Adaptable UAV' Uses Both Fixed and Rotary Wing Flight

Within the next few decades, armed forces could be using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) with adaptable aircraft technologies that alternate between fixed-wing flight and rotary-wing flight. Engineers from BAE Systems together with students from Cranfield University, have revealed a new technology concept – named Adaptable UAVs – which can alternate between the two different flight modes in the same mission. Airtelis, with the support of Nova Capital Group, has signed a contract with Airbus Helicopters for the purchase of three H215 heavy helicopters, including two options. Transport Canada Certifies PT6C-67A Engine

Transport Canada has certified the Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6C-67A helicopter engine which powers the AW609, an aircraft that flies both horizontally and vertically. SpaceX is planning to attempt to recover an upper stage in a launch attempt late in 2018, according to company president Gwynne shotwell.
