The City of Santa Monica may now proceed with shortening the runway at Santa Monica Airport (KSMO) after a temporary restraining order halting the work was lifted by U.S. District Judge Ronald Lew, who had put it in place. Airport Director Stelios Makrides said that the city is pleased with the court's decision, "which allows it to fulfill its commitment to the community and the FAA. The city will renew work on the runway-shortening project, which it expects to commence within the next week..." The notice on the NavWorx website was terse. "The ADS600-B Gen 2.0 product utilizes a GPS module from a third-party vendor. Although the vendor represented their GPS module met 14 CFR 91.227, the FAA recently determined the GPS module does not meet 14 CFR 91.227. We are unable to sell the ADS600-B, or provide AD updates, for either certified or experimental aircraft. Therefore, we are not currently conducting any business and have ceased operations. We will provide updates if they become available."

Commercial Drone Operators Can Now Access Controlled Airspace

Skyward Approved To Give Operators Instant Access Through LAANC

Skyward, a Verizon company, has been approved to give commercial drone operators instant access to controlled airspace with the Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability (LAANC) services from the FAA. The program will roll out this fall at Cincinnati International Airport (KCVG), Reno (KRNO), San Jose (KSJC), and Lincoln (KLNK) among others.
