Drone Causes RAF And Other Flights To Divert

UK Imposes Fines, Destruction Order

A drone pilot flew his drone at altitudes over 12,000 feet on numerous occasions in the Boston, England, area that flights by the Royal Air Force, National Police Air Service, and an air ambulance had to divert to deconflict the airspace. Police said the drone pilot often flew his UAS between 7,000 and over 12,000 feet and displayed “blatant disregard” for the rules governing unmanned aircraft.

The World Air Sports Federation (FAI) announced that the first-ever FAI Junior World Paragliding Championship was held in Tolmin, Slovenia on August 18-31. Association Will Meet With Legislators To Discuss Business Issues

The Flight School Association of North America (FSANA) announced its first annual Flight Training Advocacy Day in Washington, DC will be held on September 17-18, 2024. The purpose of the gathering will be to meet with members of Congress or their staff to discuss critical issues that impact flight training businesses. The flight training industry is currently going through a very dynamic time, and the FSANA is issuing a call to action for providers of flight training to take the time to come to Washington to try to raise awareness among legislators about the issues and challenges flight training schools must contend with.

COPA Elects New Board Members

Six New, Two Returning Members Round Out Slate

The Canadian Owners and Pilots Association (COPA) announced the election of eight members to its Board of Directors. Six are new to the role while two have been on the board- one a former chair and the other a current member. COPA is a non-profit organization founded in 1952 that serves as a unified voice for general aviation (GA) in Canada. It is the largest aviation association of its kind in the country and fulfills a role very similar to that of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) in the U.S. with its support and advocacy for GA and personal (non-airline) pilots across all aspects of aviation and at all levels of government.

FAI International Skydive World Cup Series 2024 Winners In Austria

Thalgau Hosts Only Series Stop In Austria

The World Air Sports Federation (FAI)’s only stop in Austria saw 195 athletes from 23 countries compete in parachute landing accuracy. In this segment, skydivers try to land on a coin-size target from 3,000 feet (1,000 meters) above. The competition was held in Thalgau and 39 teams, with five jumpers each, were required to land on a ten-cent coin. Teams or individuals who touched down the shortest distance from the coin were awarded points toward the World Cup.
