Bonanza Gets Hit By a Car After Emergency Landing

Pilot Was Forced to Land on the Interstate After Mechanical Failure

On August 28, a 1948 Beechcraft A35 Bonanza was hit by a car after executing an emergency landing on the interstate. Police reported at least one injury, but no fatalities. The Greensboro Police Department will be investigating the crash, and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will be reviewing the aircraft’s malfunction.

Medical Transport And Emergency Flights Could Be Affected

Reid-Hillview Airport (KRHV) in San Jose, California, has been under the threat of closure since before the county stopped accepting Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grants from the FAA in 2018. Although there has not yet been any formal action to close the airport, county supervisors are assessing different options should the airport close when the grant assurance obligations are over in 2031.

B-29 'Doc' Coming To Ogden-Hinckley Airport

Midweek Stop For Historic World War II Superfortress Bomber

The History Restored Tour of the B-29 Superfortress Doc continues as it will make a midweek stop at Ogden-Hinckley Airport (KOGD) in Utah and will be available for flight experience rides on September 24-25-26. During World War II 1,644 B-29s like Doc were built in Wichita, Kansas, at the Boeing Company’s plant. Doc rolled off the assembly line 80 years ago in 1944, and it is one of the two B-29s along with Fifi that are airworthy and still flying today.

WAI Scholarships Are Open

Applications Being Accepted, So Apply Now!

The Women in Aviation International (WAI) scholarship program is officially open and accepting applications. There are 59 scholarships being provided by 41 funding entities for a wide variety of aviation career training programs. This year’s cycle includes two new scholarships in aerospace engineering and flight training, and others are available for engineering, maintenance, dispatch, and general career advancement for individuals at all stages of life and career. Applicants may apply for up to three scholarships per year.

Aircraft Available For Cancer Patients Significantly Expands

Corporate Angel Network (CAN), a Danbury, Connecticut-based provider of free transportation on business jets for cancer patients to travel to specialized treatment centers, announced a significant expansion of its fleet by adding turboprop aircraft to its legacy jet fleet. CAN is able to provide transportation services through the generosity of corporate flight departments and other operators who make unused seats on their business jets available for patients. CAN flew more than 2,000 patient flights in 2023.
