Grand Champion XP-82 Comes to Market

While everyone enjoys a classic warbird, there's a certain kind of buyer who looks fondly at the "Twin Mustang" of yore, one of the USAF's last piston fighters to serve. Truthfully, the XP-82 isn't quite as simple as a conjoined Mustang, despite its looks, but it remains an oddball among long-range escort fighters of the late war to Korean War era. Originally designed to provide fighter coverage to long-ranged bomber sorties sorties, the XP-82 (later F-82 upon adoption) was born into the waning years of prop fighters, fighting for purpose in the dawn of the jet age.

MTSU Incident Leads to Temporary Runway Closure

Aircraft Is Part of the University’s Growing Trainer Fleet

On September 5, an MTSU training exercise gone-wrong ended with an aircraft veering into the grass. This led to a temporary runway closure at the Murfreesboro Municipal Airport in Tennessee. Last week’s incident is surely a rough start to the school year. The plane is a part of MTSU’s Department of Aerospace trainer fleet. They own and operate 45 aircraft, consisting of mostly Diamond DA-40s and Piper Seminoles.

CAP Cadets Spend Week Learning At Business Academy

Focus Is On Careers And Business Activities

For a full week in August, twenty-four Civil Air Patrol (CAP) cadets attended the organization’s Aviation & Aeronautics Business Academy. Cadets and staff came from all eight regions and 20 wings of CAP and there was even a squadron from Germany. The academy had been on hiatus since 2015, but this was the second straight year it was hosted at the Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology in Queens, New York.

Swiss Seaplane Manufacturer Gets First Lease Deal

Promising Developments in Seaplane Design Spark Interest Abroad

Jekta, a sustainable, electric seaplane developer, announced a completed deal to lease 30 of its PHA-ZE 100 aircraft. The Swiss company announced the receipt of its very first leasing agreement with Solyu, a South Korean outfit that will one day bring the PHA-ZE 100 to its home market. Solyu will provide some financial support to help disseminate the PHA-ZE 100 to clients there, which should be worth somewhere north of $1 billion USD in all. The PHA-ZE 100 promises to be a sustainable approach to seaborne operations, with cabin layouts ranging from a 19-seat commuter to a plush 6-seat VIP trim.
