Aero Linx: Utah Back Country Pilots Association (UBCP) Through the sharing experiences, the UBCP has built upon a foundation of safe operating practices in some of the most challenging aspects of back country aviation. Because of the great initiative exercised by the UBCP Board Members of the past, airstrips such as Mexican Mountain, once sought to be closed, are open to the public today. The UBCP and its members endorse and exercise responsible use practices such as "Pack it in / Pack it out" and "Tread Lightly" as well as some of our own in-house programs.

ANN's Daily Aero-Term (02.24.25): Takeoff Hold Lights (THL)

Takeoff Hold Lights (THL) The THL system is composed of in-pavement lighting in a double, longitudinal row of lights aligned either side of the runway centerline. The lights are focused toward the arrival end of the runway at the “line up and wait” point, and they extend for 1,500 feet in front of the holding aircraft. Illuminated red lights indicate to an aircraft in position for takeoff or rolling that it is unsafe to takeoff because the runway is occupied or about to be occupied by an aircraft or vehicle.

ALPA continues to recommend against publicly speculating on this accident.” Source: Part of a statement from ALPA, bemoaning the vicious, inaccurate speculation over the ID and skills of the crew involved in a recent air carrier accident. ANN could not agree more.
