Airborne 01.19.15: Virgin Satellites, Lear 85 Grounded, Sebring LSA Showcase Accident

Virgin Galactic’s Sir Richard Branson says they are applying their human spaceflight program and its team’s extensive background in low-cost launch systems to create LauncherOne, an orbital launch vehicle dedicated to the new and exciting small satellite market. Bombardier said last week that it will pause its Learjet 85 business aircraft program. They say the pause is due to weak demand for the Learjet 85 aircraft and follows a downward revision of Bombardier's business aircraft market forecast. This reflects the continued weakness of the Light aircraft category since the economic downturn. We are sad to report that the U.S. Sport Aviation Expo held in Sebring Florida

Asteroid To Fly Safely By Earth On January 26

Will Be About Triple The Distance Between The Earth And The Moon

An asteroid, designated 2004 BL86, will safely pass about three times the distance of Earth to the moon on January 26. From its reflected brightness, astronomers estimate that the asteroid is about a third of a mile in size. The flyby of 2004 BL86 will be the closest by any known space rock this large until asteroid 1999 AN10 flies past Earth in 2027.
