Aero-TV: Jet Pilot In 250 Hours! Alexandra Knorr’s Eclipse Type Rating Story

The Term 'Jet Pilot' Is Being Constantly Redefined

The image we commonly conjure up when someone says the term, “jet pilot,” is that of a guy who has tons of hours, lots of experience, and a certain swagger that says, “I have the right stuff.”

Well, while at AirVenture 2015, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, stopped by the One Aviation display to talk about the Eclipse very light jet (VLJ).

Jim had the pleasure of meeting with the Managing Director of Jet Lounge, GmbH. He talked with Alexandra Knorr who is a 250 hour pilot, rated in the Eclipse Jet, and definitely not a guy. The Eclipse has always been touted as the way to get into business jet flying for pilots that are not professional jet pilots, and Alexandra makes the point…proving that she does have the “right stuff.’

Knoor discusses her training and says she became type rated in about three weeks of training, and admitted, it was hard work. However, she makes the case for what Eclipse says is the way their airplane can be operated, and that any GA pilot can make a good jet pilot.

When asked what advice she would give to prospective customers that have the means but are low-time pilots, she said, “Don’t be afraid; just go for it.” The video goes on to give more details about the Eclipse and how it can be the perfect airplane for the owner-pilot to get started with jet flying. This video has some great scenes of the Eclipse in action and provides lots of details.
