Cessna 172 Down In Lake Aeroflex In New Jersey

All Four On Board Escape The Plane Before It Sank

A Cessna 172 arriving at Aeroflex-Andover Airport in Andover, NJ around 1:00 p.m Friday afternoon overshot the runway and went into Lake Aeroflex with a family of four on board. Fortunately, all four ... two adults and two children ... were able to get out of the plane before it sank in the lake.

NJ.com reports that, according to Andover Police Chief Eric Danielson, the four, who were not identified, refused medical treatment following the accident.

The family was rescued from the sinking plane by a fisherman who drove his boat to the accident site.

The family had departed from Harrisburg, PA en route to Morristown, NJ. But a TFR put in place for a visit by President Donald Trump forced them to divert to Andover.

The aircraft was removed from the lake by the New Jersey State Police and moved to a secure location pending an investigation by the FAA and NTSB.

FAA records indicate that the plane is a 2003 C172S registered to the 150th Aero Flying Club of Morristown, NJ. it's most recent airworthiness certificate was issued in June of this year.
