National Aviation Day and Open Cockpit at New England Air Museum

The New England Air Museum is welcoming visitors to a National Aviation Day Celebration on Saturday, August 17th from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Established by President Roosevelt in 1939 to commemorate the anniversary of Orville Wright's birthday, this year's event celebrates over one hundred years of New England aviation history. Join us for activities for children, families, and aviation enthusiasts of all ages.

The program includes their popular Open Cockpit experiences in a variety of aircraft will be open for visitors including a WWII era fighter, helicopters and jet aircraft. The Museum also offers hands-on Build & Fly Challenge; interactive Flight Science Demonstrations; virtual flight simulators; and much more.

Continuing the celebration, on Sunday, August 18th museum member Kenneth Katz will present 'Before Predator: The Early History of US Air Force Remotely Piloted Aircraft.' Drone warfare entered the public consciousness as a result of the War on Terror, but few people know the long history of remotely piloted aircraft in the American military, which goes back to World War II and even before. Mr. Katz will talk about the six decades of progress and setbacks that preceded the modern era of aerial robotic warfare. Ken currently serves as the Manager of Business Systems at Collins Aerospace in Windsor Locks, CT. The program will begin at 1:00 p.m. free for Museum members and $20 for non-members.
